There is a resurgence of interest in Flowering maples which may be partially due to our continuing interest in exotic-looking plants. Not many named cultivars can claim to have been in the trade for over a century but Abutilon 'Souvenir de Bonn' can do so for it was once popular as a parlor plant in a previous age. Nowadays, it is more likely to be found growing in gardens in warmer parts of North America or grown in a large pot, sheltered during the winter and used to add a tropical look to a summer-to-fall garden. One of its attractions is the large, maple-like leaves which are edged in creamy white. Another, is the large lantern-shaped flowers composed of five over-lapping petals. The petals are salmon orange with dark red veining. Look inside the flower to see the pistil which looks like a fancy gold lamp pull. Don't be afraid to cut this back at the end of winter to force new growth. Keep it well watered and feed it and it will perform well.

Late summer to autumn.  8-10 ft. x 4-6 Ft.
