China. Beesia calthifolia is an ideal perennial for a part shade garden. Its heart-shaped, glossy foliage is evergreen and remains attractive year-round. Further, it is tidy and slow to increase so it never seems to outgrow its spot. In addition, it has a season of flowering which, although not overly showy, is attractive. Individual leaves are dark green with contrasting yellow green veining. It is this marbled effect that draws the eye during much of the season. During colder weather, the leaves turn uniformly dark.
Mid- to late spring. 4-5 in.
