Viewing Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Lutescens' in our winter garden, the words "craggy" and "windswept" come to mind. Long low-swooping lower branches give way to foreshortened upper branches. When grown in the full sun, the flattened scale-like leaves are a dazzling mix of vanilla cream and bright lemon on top, greening up as the spring warms up.
