Its parentage of C. laurifolius x C. monspellensis makes Cistus x ledon one of the hardiest of Cistus crosses. In habit, this is upright when young, but does begin to widen as it ages. The long, narrow foliage is dark and sticky to the touch.

This is a genus of small to medium sized evergreen and semi-evergreen shrubs that are mostly from Europe and North Africa. They thrive in full sun and light, well-drained soil. They are drought tolerant when established.
