'Akiko' (Toyohei Saegusa, 1990) is a woman's name in Japan. It is therefore an appropriate name for the soft blue flowers of this climber. The sepal color is sharply contrasted with red purple anthers. The flowers measure 6 to 8 inches wide. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.

April to May; August.  6-8 ft.

Light Blue flowers

Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
