This is a seedling found by the staff at Friends of the Rogerson Clematis Collection which they rescued and named Clematis 'Early Times' for its exceptionally early bloom. Because it is a Clematis cirrhosa cross that means the flowers begin to open very early in the fall and continue non-stop until the spring. We grow Clematis cirrhosa and its cultivars in sheltered locations in the garden but insure that they get good sun. We find that if the temperature goes much below freezing, the existent buds will not open but will wait until the temperature returns above freezing to open. In leaf, the foliage appears to be well divided like Clematis cirrhosa var. balearica, however, it is not so finely cut. The flowers are creamy white with maroon stipling in the interior.

Autumn to spring.   8-12 ft.

Creamy White flowers
