This chance seedling was selected for trial by Kazushige Ozawa in 1999 not long before his death. In 2008, his nephew named it Clematis 'Kasumi no kimi', registered it and introduced it to the Japanese public. The word "kasumi" suggests haze and the term "kimi" is an old-fashioned title of respect. Looking at the flower's pale urn-shaped flowers covered in fine hairs it is easy to appreciate the name. The four, sepal-tips recurve strongly revealing the purplish pink interior. Not only the flowers, but the stems and foliage are also covered in white down. This is an unusual but very charming and long-blooming perennial. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.
