Integrifolia type clematis are among the easiest and most rewarding clematis for the mixed border. They do not climb, but instead are best treated as long-blooming perennials. We have found that they can be easily tied up with a single stake and a bit of twine. This keeps the woody stems upright and the single, nodding flowers visible. Clematis 'Shikon' (2010) was chosen from a group of open-pollinated seedling of Clematis 'Rooguchi' by Mikiyoshi Chikuma. Its flowers have four sepals that are long and narrow, have wavy margins and twist as they mature. 'Shikon' is Japanese for dark purple blue, the color of the flowers.
