This is a double form of the species Clematis patens found in the wild in Japan. The magnificent large blooms of Clematis patens 'Yukiokosi' are quite early to open. Their creamy white sepals are often tinged with green when they open and, at times, they are flushed rose pink. We have grown this now for many years and it always repeats in late summer. Often it has buds throughout the growing season. It is our understanding that the name 'Yukiokoshi' refers to the sound of thunder that precedes snowfall. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.

Spring, late summer.  6-8 ft.

Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after the spring flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
