In 1997 or 1998, we visited nurseryman Kazushige Ozawa at his nursery in Kawasaki, Japan, and he gave us seed from a Clematis terniflora plant he called variegated. Subsequently we selected the best seedlings and have produced our plants from cuttings from these mother plants. The young leaves of these vines have central silver markings that partially disappear as the leaves age. These are vigorous climbers which can reach great heights. They can be used to cover walls, sheds, cyclone fences and the like. Their flowers, of course, retain the powerful fragrance of the species.
