The seed from which this German selection was made is of Scottish origin and that is what the German epithet refers to. This is a cool season grass which means it blooms early in the growing season and does not need the heat of summer to bloom. Its basal foliage forms evergreen tufts from which emerge 3-foot flowering stems that grow tawny as they age. From summer into fall the grass is ashimmer in a halo of these inflorescences. Deschampsia c. `Shottland' is a very durable grass but is happiest when it receives adequate water and sun. It is a joy as a specimen but is wonderful in mass plantings as well.

Early summer.  2-3.5 ft. x 2-3.5 ft.
