True to its latinate name, the flowers of 'Red Queen' are large, measuring up to 1 1/4 inches in width. Their rich rose color is enhanced by the bronze blush on the margins of the young leaves. Epimedium grandiflorums are herbaceous, the leaves die back in winter and new growth emerges with the flower stems in spring.

Epimediums in general grow well under deciduous trees often tolerating somewhat dry situations. We have also grown Epimediums in the full sun and have found that they increase more quickly than in shade but their leaves will often will turn crisp in the hot summer sun. We have enjoyed them the most in open or dappled shade.
