This selection of Burning bush was named for Roy Nordine, a former propagator at the Morton Arboretum whose name is also associated with Cotinus coggygria 'Nordine'. Euonymus alatus 'Nordine' is noted for its compact habit and its densely "corked" or "winged" stems. In habit the shrub is somewhat rounded and fully branched from the ground upward. Insignificant flowers produce abundant red fruits that have four lobes which open to reveal contrasting orange arils covering the seeds within. The fruits open as the green leaves begin to show their brilliant red color.
