In the spring and early summer, Euonymus planipes (sachalinensis) may seem an ordinary deciduous shrub, but in late summer when the spherical, bright red fruits develop and split to reveal their shocking orange seeds, everyone takes note. Then the leaves turn brilliant red and the show gets even better.
