This Oregon native is noted for its long tress-like tassles which develop and extend up to a foot long from fall into winter. A harbinger of the spring to come, the tassles are a delight whether they hang straight or billow in the mid-winter breezes. Easily shaped or espaliered, this fast-growing, evergreen shrub is under-represented in gardens. For those wanting to extend the seasons of interest in their gardens, this is surely a worthy choice. Give this shrub good drainage. Once it is established, it is fairly drought tolerant.
