There is much confusion about this species and its other Japanese counterpart P. fauriei. Found in the Kuril Islands and Russia, this is a very hardy, somewhat short-lived perennial. Papery, pale yellow flowers measure up to 1 1/4 inches in width. They are solitary and bowl-shaped but produced over a long period of time. Flower stems are about 6 inches in length. The flowers are followed by interesting knob-like seed capsules that are rounded on top. The silvery rosettes of deeply lobed leaves are very attractive,
