Found in many locations in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, this compact shrubby perennial is noted for its small, holly-shaped leaves which are evergreen, shiny and have good substance. Our form comes from open slopes near the edge of a woodland in the Columbia River Gorge. The tubular flowers are two-lipped, with the lower lip projecting out beyond the upper. A yellow beard is visible in the interior of the flower. Inflorescences are terminal with few flowers.
