China, Taiwan, Phillipines. This is a recent acquisition to our gardens. Many of our customers ask for evergreen shrubs which they can use to create backdrops for their herbaceous borders. We are happy to add this to our growing list of evergreen shrubs. Its glossy lance-shaped leaves reflect light even in a partly shaded area. The new leaves of Viburnum propinquum have an attractive bronze gloss before they turn dark green. The leaf petioles are purple and complement the shrub. In the spring, the pale flowers lend their subtle charm. They are followed in summer by rounded dark fruits. Although the literature states that this shrub can get quite large, anecdotal evidence suggests that in most gardens it remains more in the three- to five-foot range in height.

Late spring.  10 ft. x 6 ft.
