| Welcome to the shopping cart at Joy Creek Nursery. Our
plant list is designed to accommodate all the plants we grow. We will add to
and update this list on a regular basis throughout the season. The
information regarding the plants listed here is based on our observations in
our own gardens as well as the published literature currently available.
Most of the plant photos on the website have been taken here in our display
gardens or stock fields. While we do not have photos of all the plants, we
add them as the combination of time, appropriate weather and general plant
appearance allows.
ORDERING OUR PLANTS In order to try and keep your shipping costs down, we grow most of our plants for catalogue shipping in smaller diameter, deeper containers than is normal for the nursery industry. These pots facilitate the development of stronger root systems while requiring less soil than other more standard containers. The plant size that we ship is indicated by the catalogue number. An entirely numeric number indicates a plant grown in a 4-inch pot or an equivalent division/propagation unit. A “-1” at the end of a catalogue number indicates the nursery equivalent of a 5-1/2-inch container or a number one division. You will also find the following symbols at the end of our plant numbers:
We are conservative in designating hardiness zones for our plants, but they are based in general on The American Horticultural Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants and our own experience. All our plants are nursery grown. None of our plants are collected in the wild. SHIPPING To reduce shipping weight, many of our plants are shipped out of their pots with the root ball intact, and others, such as clematis, are shipped in their containers. All plants are packaged to insure they do not dry out or become damaged in shipping. We will ship your complete order as close to your preferred shipping date as possible. During our peak shipping times (April through June) there may be up to a three-week delay in shipping orders. Because we do not back-order, an additional order would have to be placed for any items not ready for shipping at the requested time. Please remember that our shipping season is determined by local climatic conditions. Should conditions be unfavorable, we will wait to ship until an appropriate time. In general, our shipping season begins in February and continues through mid-November. For exceptions see #2 below. Our fee for handling and packaging is $4.00. We will charge you the actual UPS or USPS charges at the time of shipping and you will receive a statement of those charges with your shipment. Here are some things to know:
