Many agapanthus cultivars have proven surprisinly cold-hardy for gardeners in the Pacific Northwest. Agapanthus 'Storm Cloud' (The Saratoga Horticulture Foundation) is no exception, surviving the exceptionally cold winter of 2008-09 with no damage. Very attractive, large umbels of richly colored tubular flowers open atop sturdy, upright stems. These stems have black streaking reflecting the influence of the dark flowers. A Great Plant Picks selection.
