In the gloom of winter, the lustruous wine red leaves of Bergenia 'Glockenturm' are a major source of color. These leathery, slightly cupped leaves rise on long leaf petioles. They are wavy on their edges and some twist slightly giving the plants a nice in-and-out, up-and-down rhythm. Measuring up to eight inches in length and six wide, they have more than enough surface to reflect the ambient light on cloudy days. In the spring, 18-inch tall flowering stems carry cymes of bell-shaped flowers. The German name means bell tower and refers to this floral arrangement. This excellent plant looks beautiful throught the seasons.
