This most unusual member of the Aster Family, surprised us all the first time we saw it bloom. The plant is quite small with a profusion of wire-thin flowering stems rising from a narrow-leaved clump of basal foliage. Toward midsummer, a haze of bright yellow flowers, pressed tightly against the stems, begin to open. There are so many flowers, so close together that it is almost impossible to photograph them in detail. Bees are frequent visitors. Grow them in lean soil mixed with gravel and avoid planting any competitive plants close by.
