We're not sure the common name Shrubby hare's ear will strike a familiar chord with American gardeners. It seems somehow misleading. We have trialed this evergreen, mediterranean shrub in low-water borders, some of which fall into light shade, and found that they flourish despite our neglect. Tiny, yellow star-flowers make up the rounded umbels that are borne at stem terminals thoughout the summer. The dark leaves have silver central veins which echo the ghostly ash-gray color of the stems. Their semi-glossy upper surfaces are part of their beauty. Coastal gardeners will find this shrub a welcome addition.
