We have grown several white flowered selections of our native form of Campanula rotundifolia but have found this to be much showier. This seed strain was developed by Jelitto Seed and introduced in 2002. The basal foliage is somewhat rounded which gives rise to the specific name of this campanula. Leaves on the stems tend to be more linear in habit. Panicles of pure white, bell-shaped flowers are held on wiry stems. The flowers of Campanula rotundifolia 'White Gem' are comparatively large for the species. This species is drought tolerant and can be used in rockeries and containers. It is equally at home in the front of a mixed border if it is not overwhelmed by surrounding foliage.
