Hybridized by F. M. Westphal of Prisdorf, Germany, and released in 1986, Clematis 'Maria Louise Jensen' has long been available in Europe but is not commonly found in North America. The richly colored flowers face upward so that the viewer can easily look inside to see the broad-based but tapering sepals that are slightly wavy on their edges. In the center of the flowers, the white filaments are flashy in contrast to the dark violet blue. The red purple tips of the filaments are equally showy. 'Maria Louise Jensen' is ideal for small gardens or containers.
May to June, July to October. 6-8 ft.
