'Yokihi' is the Japanese name for the Chinese beauty Yang Guifei of the Tang Period whose history is recorded in The Song of Unending Sorrow. The upfacing flowers are rich rose when they open, darker at the base of the sepals and along their central bars. As they age, they blush coral pink, an effect nicely set off by the creamy anther tips. Spring flowers of Clematis `Yokihi' can measure up to 6 inches.

May to June; September.  6-8 ft.

Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
