When we first saw Dichroa febrifuga blooming late in the season at Portland's Chinese Garden, we wondered what kind of hydrangea stayed evergreen and bloomed in the autumn. The foliage is large and well-veined. The clustered flowerhead does remind one of a hydrangea, however it is followed by stunning blue fruit that holds through the fall.
