Sea hollies are ideal deciduous perennials for sunny dry borders. Among the many selections that have been made, Eryngium planum 'Blue Hobbit' stands out for its compact, many-stemmed habit. Its flowering stems are stained silvery blue and sport similarly colored spiny floral bracts surrounding each flower. The spines are prickly so handle them carefully when you deadhead to promote new growth. Flowers can also be used in floral arrangements. Bees are regular visitors to the sea hollies in our gardens.
