It is always exciting to grow a plant that was introduced by a local nursery. Geum 'Mango Lassi' was selected by Grace Dinsdale at Blooming Nursery in Cornelius, Oregon, which is just over the hill from our nursery. Grace was inspired by the color of the yogurt drink served in Indian restaurant when she named this perennial which reminded her of the mango, yellow and golden tints visible in its flowers. We have come to rely on this geum for its tidy, compact yet rugged, evergreen foliage and its long-blooming flowers held on upright stems above the foliage. Cut the flowering stems back after the first flush of flowers and it will repeat bloom. This is a Great Plant Pick from the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden.
