Hydrangea quercifolia is an ideal species for a woodland garden, even one that gets dry from time to time. These cuttings are from the selection we grow in our garden. It is shorter than H. 'Snow Queen' and 'Snow Cloud,' however, it has very nice 8-to-10-inch panicles with showy, large sterile flowers. The leaves are 6 inches long and narrower than those of the named cultivars we grow. In the autumn, the leaves turn burgundy and persist on the shrub until a major storm arrives. Then the exfoliating bark takes center stage.
