Because it is an especially large and showy selection of this woodland species, Hydrangea 'Blue Deckle' is a nursery favorite. The almost eight-inch leaves are large and graceful in shape tapering nicely at the tip. They often have a blush of burgundy or red. The shrub is also very floriferous with numerous seven- to eight-inch wide lacecap infloresences. As the flowerheads age they fade from blue to pistachio and, with the coming of autumn, show the rose colored reverse sides of the sepals.
