This is a large form of H. serrata with large foliage and inflorescences. Leaves measure 6 to 8 inches long and 3 1/4 inches wide. In the autumn, they are stained attractive purple black. Floral heads can reach 9 inches across. The infertile florets are 2 1/4 inches wide on extra long flower stems. There are usually 6 to 8 florets per head. As they age, these florets turn green and face down revealing magenta pink reverses. All in all Hydrangea s.`Caerulea Lace' is an impressive shrub and ideal for a woodland setting.
