This Japanese selection of the woodland hydrangea has unique misted foliage that is quite dramatic The five-inch leaves are made even more dramatic by the contrasting pink leaf-petioles. The unusual foliage showcases the lacecap flowers which are pale lavender pink or blue. In autumn, the leaves on Hydrangea s. `O Amacha Nishiki' flush burgundy and red. Treat this as a specimen plant in the woodland garden. The Japanese name indicates that this is a "brocade sweet tea" hydrangea. The sweet tea or "amacha" hydrangea leaves have a sweet flavor when they are dried and processed. At one time, young girls celebrated Girls Day with tiny cups of this sweet tea.
