This water-loving iris has six-inch, purple black, velvety flowers with a golden blaze on the petals. Looking down on the flower you can see its elegant triangular shape. Although this is happy in ordinary garden soil, it is a plant that can handle wet sites. Iris l. `Black Gamecock' is spreading but is easily down-sized.
