Some years Iris unguicularis begins blooming in late autumn and then repeats in the late winter. The flowers bloom within long grass-like evergreen foliage, perhaps seeking its protection. Not showy from a distance but a breath of fresh air at a difficult time of year. We treasure the lavender-blue flowers with yellow blazes on their falls.
