We originally grew this plant as Lavendula stoechas 'Madrid Purple' which is how the plant is marketed in Europe. It is one of a series of Spanish lavenders developed in New South Wales, Australia, at Paradise Plants. It has been remarketed for North America under the name Lavandula stoechas 'Bee Brilliant'. The goal of the series was to create showy plants that are suitable for the hot and humid weather of coastal Australia. We have particularly enjoyed 'Bee Brilliant' which has held up well to our wet and changeable weather. Not only is it showy, but it is also fairly compact in habit. Its dark purple corollas are vivid as are the dark "butterfly wing" bracts at the top of the flower spike.
