Ligularia dentata 'Othello' is an ideal plant for those who have a seep, creek or other year-round damp area or have a garden area that they water on a regular basis. The juvenile foliage emerges purple and ages to green with a blush of purple. The reverse side of the mature leaves is purple. The large, foot-wide leaves are kidney-shaped and have teeth along their margins. These teeth are described in the specific name for the plant. In midsummer, the plant sends up purple tinged stems which will bear showy corymbs of 2-inch, flat daisies with brown centers. Ligularias that are planted in too much sun or under-watered can sometimes collapse. They will rally after they are watered.
