From Chile. In our garden, Lobelia tupa has formed an impressive clump with dozens of upright flower stems rising from a base of large gray green leaves. The terminal racemes of flowers measure up to 18 inches. Individual flowers are 2.5 inches long. Their brick-red coloration is accented with purple red calyces. After fifteen years, our clump has reached five feet across and the abundance of its flowers delights visitors both human and humming. Our plant receives only occasional water during our hot summers. This is a Great Plant Pick.
