We have been growing muhly grasses for many years to test them in our Pacific Northwest climate. Muhlenbergia lindheimeri, sometimes known as Big muhly, is an impressive clumping grass from Texas. As a specimen it has a fountain-like form with fine, blue gray, semi-evergreen leaves. The tall, pipe cleaner-like flower stems rise up stiffly to five feet. The inflorescences have a pink tint as they open. This grass is truly drought-tolerant. We grow it in a no-water border where it has flourished.
Late summer. 3.5-4 ft. x 3 ft.
