Diana Reeck from Collector's Nursery introduced us to Mukdenia rossii 'Shishiba'. The young, dark green palmate leaves are well divided and ruffled, forming the lion's-mane-like appearance which is suggested in the Japanese cultivar name. The leaves broaden out with age. The white flowers open in panicles held above the the foliage. In our gardens, the foliage persists until it is too hot or too dry and then tends to break down in preparation for winter dormancy.
