The Japanese name for Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Goshiki' indicates that it is "five-colored." It is true that the young leaves are pink maturing from light green to dark green with irregular cream-to-yellow splotching. Perhaps the intensely fragrant white flowers are yet an additional color. Their fragrance permeates the garden in the fall. The thick, glossy holly-like foliage may look spiny but it is soft to the touch. A Great Plant Picks selection.
