Friends introduced us to Pachyphragma macrophilla when it was being evaluated for Great Plant Pick status. Because it is self-seeding, it has not attained that honor, but, nonetheless, remains a special plant in our shade garden. Semi-evergreen leaves are up to 7 inches wide and look like giant viola leaves. The corymbs of pure white flowers mock the cold and continue to bloom for an extended season blending in beautifully with the earliest spring bulbs. The seedlings are very easy to remove if not wanted.
Late winter to early spring. 12 in. x 30 in.
