Podophyllum pleianthum produces large salad plate-sized, shiny leaves that have 6 to 10 shallow lobes. In midsummer, if you tip the plates aside, you reveal clusters of purple red flowers beneath. Later in the season, tip them to reveal rich red mayapples. This rhizomatous plant is easy to contain and its unusual durable foliage, which looks good until deep cold strikes, makes it well worth growing. Summer. 30 in. x 18 in.
