This small evergreen shrub has thick glossy leaves that are somewhat rounded. Cluster of tiny white flowers form at each leaf axil up the stem. When they open in January and February, their fragrance is noticeable on sunny days. We have observed that this plant seems wider than it is tall. Our specimen of Sarcococca orientalis seems especially rich with flowers. We base our measurements on four years of growth.
