This is a Northwest native. When the new growth of Thermopsis montana emerges from the spring soil, it is a surprising black which soon fades to green. Soon the buds begin to open a primrose yellow. Not a tall plant, but a graceful addition to the early season border. Dark bean-shaped seed pods are an added attraction.
