Coming from the Mediterranean area east to the Altai Range, these heat and drought tolerant biennials/short-lived perennials are useful to move the eye upward in the garden. Many-flowered spikes rise from flat basal crowns of rugged foliage that is deeply veined. Numerous small, darkly colored flowers open on up-right stems from the bottom to the top. Verbascum phoeniceum 'Violetta' will rebloom if dead-headed after bloom.
Late spring to late summer. 24-36 in. x 36 in.
