W. China. This evergreen shrub is commonly grown and neglected in Northwest gardens. Although it will tolerate some degree of dryness, it is not a mediterranean plant and requires regular watering to reveal its true beauty. The foliage is leathery, deeply veined and not noticably toothed along the margins. It takes two plants of Viburnum davidii to produce the attractive, persistant, metallic blue fruits. The leaves are not as glossy, but in many respects this looks like a small form of Viburnum cinnamonifolium. A Great Plant Picks selection.
Early summer. 3-5 ft. x 5 ft.
